The Centre for Human Rights Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA) and Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) have called on the public to embrace the reintegration of former inmates into society without discrimination.

In a statement, the two organisations say the recent social media posts insinuating that the inmates released by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera as part of Easter celebrations will increase crime rate in the country are discriminatory in nature.

They have since urged Malawians to remember that the inmates released by the President have served part of their sentences and have reformed.

To ensure proper integration of inmates, CHREAA and SALC urged government to revert to the old system of providing the former inmates with travel allowances to enable them to travel back to their respective homes safely.
